CCNA Starter · FIRST LAB Lab 01

Your first router: open the console and set an IP address

You need no experience for this lab. Open R1’s console, climb from user EXEC to privileged EXEC to configuration mode, give one interface an IP address, switch the interface on, and prove it works with a ping.

CCNA Starter · CLI MODES Lab 02

Move between the modes

R1 is already working, so nothing here can break it. Practise moving: up with enable and configure terminal, one level back with exit, all the way out with end, and running a show command from inside configuration mode with do.

CCNA Starter · SAVING Lab 03

Name the router and keep your work

What you type changes the running configuration, which lives in memory and is lost when the router restarts. Name R1, set up its interface, save, restart it, and watch your work come back.

CCNA Starter · FIRST LAN Lab 04

Connect two PCs with a switch

A switch joins the devices of one network. It needs no IP address to do that. Give both PCs an address on the same network, ping between them, then look inside the switch to see how it learned where they are.

CCNA Starter · DEFAULT GATEWAY Lab 05

Join two networks with a router

A switch joins devices on one network. A router joins different networks. PC1 and PC2 have addresses on different networks and no way out. Set up R1 between them, then tell each PC where its way out is: its default gateway.

CCNA Starter · STATIC ROUTES Lab 06

Two routers, one static route each way

A router only knows the networks it touches. R1 and R2 each have one network the other has never heard of. Teach each router the way there with a static route, then deliver a ping from PC1 to PC2.

CCNA Starter · FIRST VLANS Lab 07

Split one switch into two groups with VLANs

All three PCs use the same network, and by default they could all talk. Put PC1 and PC3 in VLAN 10, PC2 in VLAN 20, and carry both VLANs between the switches on a trunk. PC2 is then cut off, even though nothing changed on the PCs.
