Objectives
The simulator ticks each one as soon as the network meets it.
On EA and EB enable feature otv, set otv site-vlan 99 and a unique otv site-identifier (0x1 and 0x2).
Run IGMPv3 on each join interface (ip igmp version 3 on Ethernet1/1).
On both, create Overlay1: otv join-interface Ethernet1/1, otv control-group 239.1.1.1, otv data-group 232.1.1.0/28, otv extend-vlan 10, no shutdown.
show otv adjacency on EA lists EB as UP.
Ping PCB (192.168.10.20) from PCA.
Before you start
The control group is an ASM group, so the core needs an RP for it; the data group range is SSM (232/8) and carries the sites’ own multicast traffic. Each join interface joins the groups with IGMPv3, like a host.
Concept
OTV: extending a VLAN between data centers
Overlay Transport Virtualization carries chosen VLANs from one site to another across any routed network. An edge device in each site learns the MAC addresses of its own site, advertises them to the other edges, and sends frames for remote MACs inside IP (a MAC-in-IP overlay). Spanning tree and unknown-unicast flooding stay inside each site, so the sites remain separate failure domains.
Concept
PIM sparse mode (ASM): shared tree, register, SPT
Sparse mode sends a stream only where it is requested. Receivers’ routers join a shared tree rooted at a rendezvous point (RP); the source’s router registers the stream to the RP; once the stream arrives, the receiver’s router joins the source directly on the shortest-path tree (SPT).
