Provider edge: XR to Huawei: eBGP lab (IOS XR)

Objectives

The simulator ticks each one as soon as the network meets it.

Configure XR AS 65001 and Huawei AS 65002.
Establish reciprocal eBGP neighbors.
Advertise both branch LANs.
Apply XR pass policies in and out, commit and verify ping.

Before you start

XR eBGP can establish without exchanging routes. Define route-policy PASS with pass/end-policy, then attach it under the neighbor IPv4 unicast address family.

Concept

eBGP: exchanging routes between autonomous systems

BGP connects networks run by different organisations (autonomous systems). Two routers in different ASes form an eBGP session over TCP port 179 and advertise only the prefixes they choose, each tagged with the AS path it has crossed.

Concept

IOS XR: candidate configuration and commit

IOS XR does not apply commands as you type them. Changes go into a candidate configuration and take effect only when you commit, so a whole set of changes is applied together — or not at all.
