Objectives
The simulator ticks each one as soon as the network meets it.
Click R1 to open its console. Angle brackets around the name mean the user view: you can look, but not change anything.
Type system-view. Square brackets, [R1], mean you can now change the configuration.
Type interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0 to choose the port you want to set up. The prompt now names it.
Set the address: ip address 192.168.1.1 24.
Switch the interface on: undo shutdown.
Type return to go straight back to the user view, then check your work: display ip interface brief.
Prove it works: ping 192.168.1.10, which is PC1.
Before you start
Read the prompt before you type: it tells you where you are. Press Tab to finish a word, and type ? to list what this view accepts. Academy chapter “The Huawei CLI from zero” explains each view.
Concept
The views of the command line
The prompt tells you which view you are in, and the view decides which commands work. Angle brackets mean you are looking; square brackets mean you are changing.
Concept
Giving an interface an IP address
An IP address belongs to an interface, not to the router as a whole, so each port has its own. In these labs a router port starts switched off, so an address alone is not enough: you also have to switch it on.
